· December 16, 2019 ·

Facebook has joined hands with top retailers who are sending the social networking giant data on what the customers are buying in retail stores. Facebook, in turn, is targeting those customers with specified ads. Not just online shopping, Facebook is able to track what customers buy in stores and target those customers with ads, according to a Business Insider report. Retail companies are sending Facebook "names, phone numbers and email addresses attached to what products people have purchased, which are then used to target people with those businesses' ads". Facebook makes almost all its money by selling ads. In the third quarter (July-September) this year, Facebook's revenue was $17.6 billion and ads contributed a whopping $17.3 billion of the total revenue. Google to fix Pixel 4 security issue which unlocks phone even when the eyes are closed

· October 21, 2019 ·

Google is reportedly working on a fix to improve the Face Unlock in the Pixel 4 phones. The company is said to be working on a software feature that would need users to open their eyes to unlock the phone. The latest Google Pixel 4 smartphones doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner and it only relies on Face Unlock to secure them. Google in its support page has officially warned Pixel 4 users that “the phone can be unlocked by someone who looks a lot like you, like an identical sibling.” "We’ve been working on an option for users to require their eyes to be open to unlock the phone, which will be delivered in a software update in the coming months. In the meantime, if any Pixel 4 users are concerned that someone may take their phone and try to unlock it while their eyes are closed, they can activate a security feature that requires a pin, pattern or password for the next unlock.," said Google in a statement to The Verge. If you are wondering how does the Soli … [Read more...] about Google to fix Pixel 4 security issue which unlocks phone even when the eyes are closed

Tech industry asks US court to reconsider net neutrality ruling

· December 16, 2019 ·

Trade groups representing major technology companies and advocacy groups asked a U.S. appeals court to reconsider its October ruling that largely upheld the 2017 repeal of landmark net neutrality rules. The Federal Communications Commission in December 2017 reversed Obama-era rules prohibiting internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking or throttling traffic, or offering paid fast lanes, a blow to large tech companies and consumer groups that had championed net neutrality. In petitions filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Friday, the Computer & Communications Industry Association, internet trade group INCOMPAS and various advocacy groups asked the three-judge panel to rehear the case or the full appeals court to take up the issue. "The decision presents an issue of exceptional importance, as it affirms the reversal of U.S. policies promoting the open Internet, and the repeal of the FCC's 2015 net neutrality rules," said one of the … [Read more...] about Tech industry asks US court to reconsider net neutrality ruling

For example, who the hell is Lube Man? Oscar Gonzalez November 11, 2019 11:53 AM PST HBO's Watchmen raises lots of questions with each episode. That's not surprising considering the original comic series left readers with plenty of head-scratchers, and the TV series writer and executive producer is Damon Lindelof, who also worked on Lost and The Leftovers. Through the end of the season, I'll look at the big questions from each episode and attempt to give answers based on the original comics, additional readings from Peteypedia or just my best guess.  So far, family legacy appears to be a developing theme -- we see that with Angela, Judd and Laurie Blake. Exactly how the past is going to impact the future ... well, that simply isn't clear yet.Episode 4: If You Don't Like My Story, Write Your OwnBefore we get into the questions, let's start with an answer we got Sunday: Adrian Veidt is in a prison.Sunday's episode confirmed Veidt's luxurious … [Read more...] about HBO’s Watchmen episode 4 raises even more questions.
