Health apps, vaccine certificates riding to rescue of air travel

· March 5, 2021 ·

Governments and airlines in Europe are hoping that vaccine certificates and digital health apps can help make travel for the masses a reality again this summer after a year of COVID-19 restrictions. What options are being considered, how do they work and what are the concerns? WHAT IS NEEDED AND WHY? Currently there are multiple restrictions on travel, with differing rules for each country. Many countries require evidence of a recent COVID-19 negative test result. Complying with changing rules is tricky for passengers and airlines. A digital health or travel app would aim to show passengers up-to-date requirements for their destination and display their COVID-19 test results and any vaccination certificate. "These solutions will therefore be vital to reduce this complexity and make the customer journey smoother," said Luis Gallego, chief executive of British Airways owner IAG. Airports say checking test results, passenger locator forms for contact tracing, and other … [Read more...] about Health apps, vaccine certificates riding to rescue of air travel

iPhone 13 could fix one of the iPhone 12’s main issues

· March 2, 2021 ·

New iPhone models tend to excel in most areas, but one thing they’re a bit inconsistent about is battery life, with some performing well, and others – such as the iPhone 12 – just performing okay. The iPhone 13 , though, might have a battery boost according to the latest leak. That’s according to Ming-Chi Kuo (an analyst with a great track record for Apple leaks). He claims in an investor note obtained by 9to5Mac that the iPhone 13 will have a larger battery capacity than the iPhone 12, making the device heavier in the process. He doesn’t say how big the iPhone 13’s battery will be, but with the one in the iPhone 12 being just 2,815mAh, there’s certainly room for improvement. Kuo also claimed that the iPhone 13 range would have smaller notches and that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 … [Read more...] about iPhone 13 could fix one of the iPhone 12’s main issues

FDA now reviewing a third COVID vaccine, this one made by Johnson & Johnson

· February 5, 2021 ·

Johnson & Johnson on Thursday announced it has applied to the US Food and Drug Administration for an Emergency Use Authorization for its one-shot COVID-19 vaccine. If the EUA is granted, the vaccine will be the third authorized for use in the US against the pandemic coronavirus, likely boosting the vaccine supply in the coming months and helping to hasten immunization country-wide. J&J’s application to the FDA comes just a week after the company revealed top-line results of its Phase III clinical trial , which found the vaccine to be 66 percent effective overall at preventing moderate and severe COVID-19. J&J’s vaccine—made by its vaccine developer Janssen Pharmaceuticals—was 85 percent effective at preventing severe disease. In the trial, severe disease was defined as testing positive for the virus as well as having signs consistent with severe systemic illness, respiratory failure, shock, or organ failure, or being admitted to an intensive care unit, or dying. 13 Australian tech firms jointly approach ATO to ‘workshop’ R&D tax incentive

· March 5, 2021 ·

Some of Australia's largest tech firms have taken it upon themselves to attempt to set the record straight with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) about where software development should fall within the eligibility criteria of the R&D tax incentive (R&DTI). In fronting the Select Committee on Financial Technology and Regulatory Technology, Atlassian global public policy director David Masters revealed that a letter signed by 13 CEOs and founders of Australian tech firms was sent to the commissioner of taxation Chris Jordan on Friday morning. "We've taken the initiative to bring a number of other innovative companies together to see if we can improve the understanding of software innovation within the tax office, but also conversely to address any concerns that the ATO has about software-related claims," Masters said. He is hopeful that the letter would mean that industry and government could convene and "workshop" the issues over the next few months "as a way of moving … [Read more...] about 13 Australian tech firms jointly approach ATO to ‘workshop’ R&D tax incentive
