Game of Thrones has set the gold standard for interweaving storylines, and many shows in the post-Breaking Bad world employ breakneck plotting to appeal to our binge-watching tendencies. The Walking Dead, on the other hand, has made a habit of hanging entire storylines out to dry for weeks — something that’s particularly frustrating given how much water-treading the show has indulged in during recent seasons. We’d love to evaluate the villain for this episode, but the biggest enemy of “The Damned” is the show’s gimmicky, keep-away plotting — which seems to continually confuse tension with simply pretending certain characters don’t exist. Chalk it up to AMC’s hunger for ratings, which has trapped The Walking Dead into 16-episode seasons its story simply can’t handle. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Villain Watch season 8, episode 2: The Damned

Slack's billing growth, a key indicator of future revenue, slowed in the second quarter and the workplace messaging app owner said it took a $11 million hit in the first half due to the Covid-19 related concessions. The company said it offered credits, payment in installments and billing duration of less than a year to help users tide over the economic downturn triggered by the health crisis, sending its shares down 18% after the bell. Slack had in the previous quarter signaled weak demand from worst-affected industries like retail and travel, prompting it to withdraw its full-year billings target. "In Q2, growth in many of our customers contracted or flattened versus normal seasonal trends. In August, growth began to trend at more typical seasonal levels," Chief Financial Officer Allen Shim said in a call with analysts. Slack's quarterly billings rose 25%, but it fell short of the 38% growth it posted in the first quarter. Billings are an important metric for growth for a … [Read more...] about Slack’s quarterly billing growth slows due to Covid-19 concessions
Last night’s episode, “The King, the Widow, and Rick,” unfortunately falls back on the show’s obsession with fragmented storytelling, and that means no Negan in the episode. It’s a shame, because it suggests The Walking Dead‘s creative team is unwilling to even address Negan short of devoting an entire standalone episode to him. It’s hardly the most satisfying experience for a series that is ostensibly an ensemble show. That said, there is still plenty to dissect in “The King, the Widow, and Rick.” As its title suggests, the episode focuses on the three community leaders and their struggles to maintain a strategic edge over the Saviors, but there is still room for a couple of surprise — including the introduction of a new character pulled straight from the comic book. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Villain Watch season 8, episode 6: The King, the Widow, and Rick
It might not be a bad thing: The Mandalorian rolled out weekly, and that allowed people to take the time to properly digest it, create gifs and so on. In a streaming age, TV shows have a tendency to come and go in the blink of an eye – so this is one way of combatting that. In the case of The Boys season 2, Amazon even has an aftershow called Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys that covers each episode in detail. … [Read more...] about When is the next episode of The Boys season 2 on Amazon Prime Video?
Daryl transforms into a full-fledged anti-hero Daryl Dixon has always been a wild card in The Walking Dead, primarily because he doesn’t exist in the comics, which lets AMC and Gimple do with him as they please. This season, that’s meant turning Daryl into a bit of an anti-hero, with a thirst for revenge and a disregard for the ethics of armed conflict. When we catch up with him in “Time For After,” he’s aligned with Tara — still heartbroken over the death of her lover, Denise — and Morgan, who has given up on redemption over the course of the season. After rescuing Michonne and Rosita in the previous episode, Daryl and his gang drive to the Sanctuary to kill the remainder of the Saviors. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Villain Watch season 8, episode 7: Time for After
