Take-Two boss says single-player games aren’t dead

· February 15, 2021 ·

A hot potato: The rise of multiplayer and live service games over the last decade has been phenomenal. Few companies can testify to this quite like Take-Two Interactive, parent of Rockstar Games and 2K Games, though its CEO says that when it comes to single-player experiences, claims of their death have been greatly exaggerated. Speaking during a recent earnings call (via Gamespot ), Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said: "The folks at Rockstar Games intended to create a powerful single-player experience a story-driven experience. And Rockstar has always been known for great stories and great single-player experiences and then developed in addition, a massive multiplayer opportunity over the past years." Grand Theft Auto V has moved 140 million copies, making it the second best-selling game of all time behind Minecraft. With "expanded and enhanced" versions coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game's commercial success will extend into a third console generation —it arrived … [Read more...] about Take-Two boss says single-player games aren’t dead

Are you “ready” for $70 video games? Take-Two’s CEO says we are

· March 8, 2021 ·

A hot potato: There's more talk about the era of $60 video games coming to an end, with $70 set to become the new standard. But don't worry: Take-Two's CEO insists we're "ready" for the price increase. Talking during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference last week (transcribed by VGC ), Strauss Zelnick, boss of Rockstar/2K parent Take-Two Interactive, was asked why NBA 2K21 was $10 more expensive than most new titles. His justification? It's a good game with plenty of replayability, and there hasn't been a price jump in fifteen years. "We announced a $70 price point for NBA 2K21, our view was that we're offering an array of extraordinary experiences, lots of replayability, and the last time there was a frontline price increase in the US was 2005, 2006, so we think consumers were ready for it," Zelnick explained. As noted by Eurogamer , it could be argued that few titles back then came with microtransactions, game passes, DLC, expansions, and other … [Read more...] about Are you “ready” for $70 video games? HP’s new gaming VR headset, Reverb G2, is made with Valve and Microsoft

· May 28, 2020 ·

If you're looking to dive into VR , there are a few basic choices: pick a standalone experience like the Oculus Quest headset , go with a game console like the PlayStation VR or go with the most flexible experience by hooking into a PC. HP's newest VR headset, designed with both Valve and Microsoft , aims to be the best VR gaming option this year. Called the Reverb G2, it was teased back in March, but the full details are now available. There are plenty of PC-connected VR headsets to choose from, and several different VR platforms that run on PCs: Oculus, SteamVR and Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality . Most PC VR headsets work on SteamVR (and let you play Half-Life: Alyx ) well enough, but the Reverb G2 promises to work better with both SteamVR and Windows. The $599 headset isn't coming until this fall, though, so it'll be a bit of a wait to find out how good it is. The Reverb G2 is a revamp of HP's previous business-focused Reverb headset , … [Read more...] about HP’s new gaming VR headset, Reverb G2, is made with Valve and Microsoft

Six Days in Fallujah publisher now says the game is ‘inseparable from politics’

· March 8, 2021 ·

Nearly a month after distancing itself from political statements, the publisher of the controversial military shooter Six Days in Fallujah has backtracked and now says the events in the game are “inseparable from politics.” The game, which takes place during the Iraq War’s Second Battle of Fallujah, has come under scrutiny for seemingly portraying a US-centric focus on a campaign in which an estimated 800 Iraqi civilians were killed, according to the Red Cross . “We understand the events recreated in Six Days in Fallujah are inseparable from politics,” publisher Victura said in a statement on Twitter . “We believe the stories of this generation’s sacrifices deserve to be told by the Marines, Soldiers, and civilians who were there,” Victura’s statement continued. “We trust you will find the game — like the events it recreates — to be complex.” We understand the events recreated in Six Days in Fallujah are inseparable from politics. pic.twitter.com/N7nkPilp1Q — Victura … [Read more...] about Six Days in Fallujah publisher now says the game is ‘inseparable from politics’
