Bodied, a satirical hip-hop film produced by rapper Eminem, will get a public release on YouTube. The company announced its acquisition of the movie today, along with a preview of the film at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21st. A theatrical release will follow later in 2018, and Bodied will also play on YouTube Red, the company’s streaming subscription service. Bodied director Joseph Kahn emerged from the commercial world, and has an extensive body of high-profile music videos made with artists including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Katy Perry. Channel 4 backs down on Reading Festival charges... First published 21.8.2001 Channel 4 has pulled out of charging users for streaming video footage of this year's Reading Festival. The broadcaster originally hoped to make users of its E4.com website pay a premium to watch performers like Eminem, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Manic Street Preachers play at the rock festival. Channel 4 Interactive is known to be experimenting with micropayment and premium-rate ISP technology, and has been looking for the right vehicle to launch its charging strategy. According to Channel 4, it wants to prove it can successfully host a free event online before making the leap into charging. If successful, the broadcaster will almost certainly move to a paying model for the festival next year. Genius, which raised $56.9 million on the promise that it would one day annotate the entire internet, has been losing its minds. In January, the company quietly laid off a quarter of its staff, with the bulk of the cuts coming from the engineering department. In a post on the Genius blog at the time, co-founder Tom Lehman told employees that Genius planned to shift its emphasis away from the annotation platform that once attracted top-tier investors in favor of becoming a more video-focused media company. “After taking a careful look at the company and our priorities,” Lehman wrote, “we’ve had to make some tough decisions about how we want to spend our resources.
