Users getting paid for the data they create is a popular idea among some tech thinkers like Jaron Lanier, someone Yang says he’s been influenced by. Facebook already pays some users for data but only under specific circumstances. Last year, the company launched its Study app that paid users who allowed the company to monitor the features they used and the time they spent on the platform. Earlier this year, Facebook even offered to pay some users for voice recordings to help improve its speech recognition technology. … [Read more...] about Andrew Yang is pushing Big Tech to pay users for data

A report by PhoneArena claims that setting this particular wallpaper can cause the smartphone to ‘soft-brick’, meaning it will have trouble booting up and will keep on crashing. It says that not only Samsung smartphones, but other Android handsets were also under risk of crashing. As to why this is happening, one theory says that since the image comes with a larger colour space than the everyday pictures, it causes an array out of bounds exception, thus crashing the UI when it is set as a wallpaper. Otherwise, once the system starts malfunctioning, there are high chances that you may have to reset your handset, which will wipe out all the data. So, until a fix arrives, it would be better for Android users to give a wide berth to the trouble-causing wallpaper. BENGALURU: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to keep its India campus hiring this year at about the same level as last year (40,000), despite the sharp drop in revenue in the quarter ended June on account of the Covid-19 fallout. It also plans to double its US campus hires to nearly 2,000 this fiscal, as part of an effort to reduce dependence on H-1B and L-1 work visas, which are becoming increasingly difficult to get. “Our key strategy for building from the bottom doesn’t change. The 40,000 (in India) might become 35,000 or 45,000 — that’s a tactical call we will make,” TCS EVP & global HR head Milind Lakkad said. The move reflects the company’s view that business will bounce back in the second half of the year. In the US, apart from engineers, TCS has also been recruiting graduates from the top 10 B-schools. It’s hiring both freshers and experienced professionals for key business roles. “Local delivery is not new to us, we … [Read more...] about Like last year, TCS to hire 40,000 freshers
