It’s never been easier to play with people all over the world. Some might not see the fuss around cross-play; after all, don’t you have enough people to play Call of Duty: Warzone with on just your PS4 ? But something as simple as cross-play can influence which hardware you pick up. After all, if your friends are playing on Xbox and you're playing on PlayStation, you want the option to play with them without having to buy an Xbox too. And it’s become increasingly clear that we have the technological ability to enable cross-platform games, especially as consoles – like the PS5 and Xbox Series X , or their PS4 and Xbox One predecessors – share increasingly similar processing architecture. A brown pelican rescued from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill 11 years ago has finally returned home. After being found completely covered in oil on June 14, 2010, the bird was taken from Louisiana to Georgia to avoid the ongoing spill, where it was later rehabilitated and released. Now, over a decade after its traumatic ordeal, the pelican has finally made the 700-mile (1,100 kilometers) journey back home. "It's truly impressive that it made its way back from Georgia," Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) biologist Casey Wright, who spotted and photographed the pelican sitting atop a rock on Queen Bess Island in Barataria Bay, said in a statement . We have only just moved into May and despite being seven months away from next summer in the southern hemisphere, climate researchers are seeing the beginnings of what could be the most powerful El Niño event since 1997/98. An El Niño is a change in Pacific Ocean and atmosphere that typically causes drought, extreme heat and bushfires in Australia. Last year was a neutral El Niño and we have been surprisingly lucky with only a few small El Niño ’s since the 21st century started, despite having two of the hottest years on record globally in 2005 and 2010 . The last really big El Niño was in 1997/98. It is no coincidence that 1998 is the only remaining year from the past century that still sits in the top 10 for the hottest years, globally, on record. By itself, research shows an El Niño event can raise … [Read more...] about Are We Heading for a Worrying Super El Niño?
Today's vacuum cleaners have moved well beyond the bulky, unwieldy appliances they once were. Modern machines are lightweight, cordless and powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Many can handle different types of flooring, from hardwood to thick carpets. And they often come with useful attachments to help with more chores around the house. One company in particular saw this trend coming. Dyson was the first to pioneer this field with a series of capable -- and pricey -- Cyclone V series stick vacs. Other companies have since followed suit, and now sell cordless vacuums of their own. Some have even shamelessly cloned Dyson products. Others are distinctive new riffs on the cordless vacuum, with innovative features all their own.
