Best you can do on 3rd Gen is the i7-3770K. Base clock of 3.5GHz, turbo 3.9GHz. That's plenty to match up with a 1050ti and a considerable performance increase in many games over the dual core i3. Friend of mine currently own a FX-8350 and wants to upgrade. She found a used i7-4790 (non 'K') + motherboard (not sure of chipset or model) for $200 even.
