Friend of mine currently own a FX-8350 and wants to upgrade. She found a used i7-4790 (non 'K') + motherboard (not sure of chipset or model) for $200 even. Your I7-2600 is similar in performance to current entry level (i.e. Intel Pentuim Gold G5400 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200). With i5-8400 you will notice a very important improvement. I5-8500 is just a little better, it's not worth the extra price it costs. i7 2600. Especially in hyperthreading scenarios and some games (and a lot of productivity apps) take advantage of that. The i7 is only 100MHz faster on paper, so it will make no different in games/apps that do not take advantage of hyperthreading.
