Slack's billing growth, a key indicator of future revenue, slowed in the second quarter and the workplace messaging app owner said it took a $11 million hit in the first half due to the Covid-19 related concessions. The company said it offered credits, payment in installments and billing duration of less than a year to help users tide over the economic downturn triggered by the health crisis, sending its shares down 18% after the bell. Slack had in the previous quarter signaled weak demand from worst-affected industries like retail and travel, prompting it to withdraw its full-year billings target. "In Q2, growth in many of our customers contracted or flattened versus normal seasonal trends. In August, growth began to trend at more typical seasonal levels," Chief Financial Officer Allen Shim said in a call with analysts. Slack's quarterly billings rose 25%, but it fell short of the 38% growth it posted in the first quarter. Billings are an important metric for growth for a … [Read more...] about Slack’s quarterly billing growth slows due to Covid-19 concessions

Last night’s episode, “The King, the Widow, and Rick,” unfortunately falls back on the show’s obsession with fragmented storytelling, and that means no Negan in the episode. It’s a shame, because it suggests The Walking Dead‘s creative team is unwilling to even address Negan short of devoting an entire standalone episode to him. It’s hardly the most satisfying experience for a series that is ostensibly an ensemble show. That said, there is still plenty to dissect in “The King, the Widow, and Rick.” As its title suggests, the episode focuses on the three community leaders and their struggles to maintain a strategic edge over the Saviors, but there is still room for a couple of surprise — including the introduction of a new character pulled straight from the comic book. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Villain Watch season 8, episode 6: The King, the Widow, and Rick
Quite suddenly, Michonne and Rosita are torn. The two don’t think they can go through with murdering dozens of innocent workers, seeing Daryl’s ends-justify-the-means mission as morally out of line. Despite being directly related to some of the larger themes explored this season, the disagreement nevertheless feels shoehorned in, and highlights the show’s reliance on characters that turn on a dime whenever the plot demands it. It’s not clear why Rosita was okay with firing an RPG at someone she’d never met in last week’s episode, but has qualms about unleashing zombies inside a warehouse full of other people she’s never met in this one. Philosophical questions like like these are supposed to be the beating heart of the show, but character inconsistencies reduce their impact whenever they arise. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Villain Watch season 8, episode 7: Time for After
We knew that it would all be coming to a head in the form of some kind of shootout, and although the action was welcomed, it still felt like one of the weakest and most risk-averse finales the show has ever delivered. That’s partly because the path we took to get here was so bloated and boring that there was no possible way one single episode could reverse a season’s worth of bad tendencies. Sure, Sasha taking Eugene’s pill in a last-ditch attempt to take out Negan was a pleasant surprise. But Jadis’ betrayal felt too convenient, as did the Kingdom and Hilltop’s arrival at just the right moment. Negan declaring war might as well have been met with shrugged shoulders. … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead Redemption Club season 7, episode 16: The First Day of the Rest of Your Life
