This week, 31-year-old Michelle from North Lanarkshire, Scotland, has access to the internet at home. But next week is already looking very different. Michelle's family has fallen behind with the broadband payments, and even though they managed to reconnect only last weekend, they'll be cut off again this Friday. Michelle (who prefers gender-neutral pronouns and whose name has been changed to protect their privacy), together with their partner and 13-year-old daughter, has been homeless since February of last year. They live in temporary accommodation, with Michelle supporting the family financially by working as a cleaner. "We've struggled with internet bills, we can't always afford data for my daughter's mobile either," Michelle said in an interview. Parler sues Amazon again, alleging effort to ‘destroy’ app
Parler, a social media app popular among right-wing groups, filed a new lawsuit accusing Amazon.com Inc of trying to destroy its business following the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump . The lawsuit seeking a variety of damages, including triple damages for anticompetitive conduct, was filed in Washington state court on Tuesday, two weeks after Parler returned online following a monthlong absence. Parler went dark when Amazon suspended its web-hosting services following the Capitol attack, saying Parler had failed to effectively moderate violent content on its website. The new lawsuit came as Parler voluntarily dismissed a federal lawsuit against Amazon over that suspension on Tuesday, the deadline to file an amended complaint. You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave! If I told you these Eagles lyrics described a certain website, you'd probably think it was Facebook . After all, public exclamations of quitting Facebook are so common it's cliche, but by and large the people still stay. The same is true on other networks that angered users with product or business changes. But even when a better alternative arrives — such as Path to Facebook or App.net to Twitter, we still don't see the users walk away. The two times a major exodus did come to fruition — Myspace to Facebook and Digg to Reddit — it was largely based on weaknesses in ease of use rather than philosophy.
