The Huawei P20 Pro launch gave us a triple camera and it was not just a gimmick in the race to do something different. The P20 Pro surprised many by delivering one of the best shooters in class. Our extensive review of the P20 came to the conclusion that the P20 presents itself as a real S9 killer — if you’re willing to learn how to get the most out of it. While the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus offer unbeatable point-and-shoot options, the P20 can do better if you put in some effort and learn the camera software and hardware inside-out. That doesn’t suit everyone, and there’ll be a clear line in the sand between the enthusiasts and the everyday smartphone fans who want great pictures no matter what settings they use.Read next: Huawei P20 Hybrid Zoom explained That might explain the results from the recent polls we ran, asking you on Android Authority and on YouTube Community if you prefer the P20 Pro, the Galaxy S9 Plus, either, or neither: … [Read more...] about We asked, you told us: Huawei P20 Pro vs Galaxy S9 Plus
Galaxy s8 vs galaxy s7
Samsung's Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus might be the best phones Samsung has ever made, and they're nearly here. On Friday, March 16, the company's new flagship handsets will bring their fancy new dual-aperture cameras (and stereo speakers!) to stores around the globe. But are they worth the upgrade if you already own a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S7, or even a recent Galaxy Note with stylus? That's why I built this guide. Just scroll down until you see the phone you own, and I'll take it from there. Note: If your Samsung phone isn't on this list, it's either old enough or has been outclassed enough that you should definitely consider an upgrade. Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus look an awful lot like their predecessors -- but don't be fooled. There are plenty of changes under the hood, even if Samsung kept fan-favorite features such as the headphone jack and microSD storage. But are any of these changes important enough for you to upgrade right … [Read more...] about Galaxy S9: Should you upgrade?

The new Samsung Galaxy S9 is clearly a refinement of last year’s admittedly successful formula. One of the best smartphones from last year just got better, but it’s hardly groundbreaking. As the wheels of the smartphone market slow, the Galaxy S9 is the perfect and inevitable response to an industry consolidating around the big players. The phone remedies a number of quibbles, finally adding a stereo speaker system, making Bixby a bit more useful, and putting the fingerprint scanner in a logical spot the human hand can actually reach. These are positive moves, but hardly industry firsts or game-changing tweaks. The reality is the smartphone form factor has been distilled into a fine formula: big screen on the front, camera(s) on the back, and software that doesn’t get in the user’s way. OEMs simply have to be the best within this somewhat limited scope, and diverting from this formula could be fatal for a brand. Just look at the LG G5. For Samsung, … [Read more...] about The Galaxy S9 might not be groundbreaking, but it’s the perfect phone for Samsung

Samsung's newly announced Galaxy S9 looks a lot like last year's S8 on paper. It has the same USB-C charging port, headphone jack, front-facing camera, RAM, battery, 5.8-inch display and Bixby button. Samsung is smart for carrying over so much of the S8's design and specs into the S9. Our reviewer said that the S8 was the most beautiful phone ever. Though one of the biggest negatives against the phone was the location of the fingerprint reader next to the rear camera. Well, that fingerprint reader got moved to under the camera -- closer to the center of the S9's back. Now Playing: Watch this: Galaxy S9 vs. Galaxy S8: 6 key differences 2:40 The rear camera has also been improved. It has the same 13-megapixel dual-pixel sensor as the S8 and S7, but it gets a new variable aperture that can capture images at f/1.5 or f/2.4. Phone cameras traditionally can only shoot at a single aperture. So it's fascinating to see the S9 get a camera feature that the dual-rear camera Note 8 … [Read more...] about How the Galaxy S9 compares against the Note 8 and S8
Samsung's Galaxy S9 is officially here -- and maybe you like what you see? Maybe you're in the market for a new phone right now, in fact. But there are two versions to choose from: the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus. Why would you pick one over the other? Let's discuss differences -- and afterwards, I'll describe what they have in common. Size As you might expect, the Galaxy S9 Plus is larger than the vanilla Galaxy S9, which may make it a better pick if you want a bigger screen or have larger hands. While each screen has the same 2,960x1,440-pixel resolution, the S9 Plus screen is larger at 6.2 inches, compared to the 5.8-inch diagonal Galaxy S9. And while both devices are the same thickness -- 8.5mm, or about a third of an inch -- the S9 Plus's body is larger too. It's 0.4 inches (about 10mm) taller and 0.2 inches (about 5mm) wider as well. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, of course. I prefer a smaller phone, and there's pixel density to … [Read more...] about Galaxy S9 vs. Galaxy S9 Plus: What’s the difference?
