Smartphone companies are always looking at introducing new features to stay ahead in the race. And Chinese smartphone brand Oppo is reportedly working on bringing a new technology called Li-Fi on its future smartphones. For those unaware, Li-Fi is simply transferring data via light using LEDs. If Li-Fi is properly implemented, it can be 100 times faster data speeds than Wi-Fi. Interestingly, Li-Fi works even if the light source is dimmed to a level that it appears switched off to the naked human eyes. Of course, Li-Fi is not a perfect technology yet but as per a report by LetsGoDigital Oppo already has published a patent in China to use Li-Fi in phones. As per the patent revealed by LetsGoDigital, Oppo may use a small sensor on the top or back of the phone to provide Li-Fi functionality. It wasn’t hard to spot Yongseok Bang, lead designer of the new Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, the moment I joined a video call with him and other employees gathered around a table in one of Samsung’s South Korea conference rooms. Directly in front of Bang was a black notebook with a big white bean stamped on the front.
