What would you do?The subjects said that to save the people on the road was more important than saving the passenger. This sort of response is obviously utilitarian in its nature. It saves the greatest number of lives possible. To save one in place of many may be the gravest form of injustice. Yet there is a catch to it all. The participants in the survey didn’t want to be in the car when the accident took place. It is indeed a thorny issue where intelligent machines are concerned. To construct ethical … [Read more...] about Driverless Car Safety Questioned: Who Should It Kill Or Save?

Drivers who miss one or two hours of sleep at night may face trouble while driving. So much so that chances of death in a car accident are more likelier among these half-awake zombies. Get the Free Tracker App to find a SNES Classic in Stock The CDC and AAA rolled out these frightening statistics. 35% of Americans don’t get the recommended seven hours of sleep per night. This leads to gaps in attention span and focus leading to a greater chance of crashing your vehicle into a tree, building or an oncoming vehicle. Such a “sleep syndrome” is responsible for one in five deaths on the highways of America each year. Those drivers who like to remain awake at night and enjoy night life or entertainment may be putting their lives as well as the lives of their near and dear ones at risk due to faulty driving.Missing out on sleep automatically leads to loss of reflexes at the wheel. I was watching a gadget show on TV this week (the channel was either NDTV or IBN) where this gentleman demonstrated how to unlock the door of your car using just a mobile phone and a spare set of car keys that are lying at your home. Here’s what they did to unlock the car with a cell phone and the remote key:1. Man gets out of the car, closes the door but then realizes that he left the keys inside.2. He then held his own cell phone near the car door while her wife pressed the unlock button at home. The car door gets unlocked immediately.I may have treated this as a hoax had I read this trick on some web forum but since this procedure was shown on national TV by a reputed channel (with a real video), it may not be completely baseless.Did you ever try this?
