Men think about sex every seven seconds, right? Not according to a new study that finds men ponder sleep and food as much as they do sex. The median number of thoughts about sex by college-age men was 18 times a day to women's 10 times a day, the study found. But the men also thought about food and sleep proportionately more. "In other words, there was nothing special about sexual thoughts," study researcher Terri Fisher, a psychologist at The Ohio State University, Mansfield, told LiveScience. "Males thought more about any of the health-related thoughts compared to females, not just thoughts about sex." Sex on the brain The "men think about sex every seven seconds" axiom is an urban legend, Fisher said. But there is little reliable research on how often men and women really do have sexual thoughts . Most studies have asked people to think back across their day or week and try to remember how many sex thoughts they had -- a method that doesn't always provide reliable … [Read more...] about Men Think About Sleep & Food as Much as Sex

Ted Lasso season 2 is coming in July, and it looks as charming as ever
Apple’s event today was full of hardware and new products, but the company also took some time to have fun by unveiling a new trailer for Ted Lasso ’s second season. The show — which stars Jason Sudeikis as a perpetually positive football coach who takes on a gig helming an English soccer team — has been one of the breakout hits on Apple TV Plus, the company’s fledgling streaming service. I always hear the question: who let the dogs out (who who who who)? With respect to The Baha Men, I prefer WHEN let the dogs out (when when when when)? — Ted Lasso (@TedLasso) April 20, 2021 Season 2 follows Lasso as he leads AFC Richmond during a season of turmoil, with the club recently relegated to a lower league. That said, it looks just as charming as season 1, with plenty of folksy expressions and largely the same cast of beloved characters. Season 2 of Ted Lasso will debut on July 23rd. No word on whether the controversial European Super League will be a plot point. … [Read more...] about Ted Lasso season 2 is coming in July, and it looks as charming as ever
Archaeological Storehouses Looted in Syria
Storehouses with more than twenty years' worth of finds from an archaeological dig in Syria have been ransacked amid the ongoing civil war, researchers say. Archaeologists from Leiden University in the Netherlands had been excavating the ancient mounds at the northern Syrian site of Tell Sabi Abyad since 1986. The abrupt onset of war forced them to stop their research in 2011. The team was recently notified by a report from Syrian Archaeological Service that armed men had plundered the depots where their finds were kept in the city of Raqqa. The report, however, did not specify what or how much was stolen, according to the university. [ Photos: Damage to Syrian Ruins Seen from Space ] "I cannot check the extent of the damage because due to all the violence the area is too dangerous to enter," Peter Akkermans, a Leiden professor of Near Eastern archaeology, said in a statement. "It is occupied by fighters of the extremist Islamic organization ISIL. Since December of last … [Read more...] about Archaeological Storehouses Looted in Syria
Study Questions Whether Women Are More Selective at Dating
We’ve long been told that women are more selective when it comes to the men they choose to date. But what if at least a part of that selectivity is due simply to environmental factors and social norms — factors that could be easily manipulated? For instance, might approaching — rather than being approached — in a dating situation make individuals less selective? Finkel & Eastwick (2009) set about to answer just that question with an experiment designed to test whether a potential partner’s “ choosiness ” was due in part to whether they were the ones doing the choosing or not. They corralled 350 college students into 15 speed dating events for their study. Participants went on 4 minute “speed dates” with approximately 12 opposite-sex individuals during each event. After each date, participants rated their romantic desire and romantic chemistry for that partner, as well as how much self-confidence they felt that had on that particular “date.” The researchers found that … [Read more...] about Study Questions Whether Women Are More Selective at Dating
College Students Don’t Judge Women For Hooking Up
Casual sex in college — known colloquially as "hooking up" — gets a lot of attention for supposedly being unhealthy for women. But a new study finds that hooking up may actually allow women more sexual agency than traditional dinner dates. The researchers don't advocate a world without dates, but they do find that college students often harbor a sexual double standard around dates that is relatively relaxed when it comes to in-the-moment hookups. In hookup scenarios , the study found, students are open to a woman taking the sexual lead. When analyzing a dating scenario, however, the students tended to fall back on traditional gender roles, more often assuming that men were only interested in sex and women in trying not to seem "slutty." That's not to say that hookups are a paradise for women, said study researcher Sinikka Elliott, a sociologist at North Carolina State University. It's just that dating might not be the refuge that it's made out to be. "Other hookup literature … [Read more...] about College Students Don’t Judge Women For Hooking Up
