Weirdly odd Echos Kudos to Amazon for experimenting with new ideas. The company offers six additional Echo products in varying degrees of usefulness and weirdness. We'll just run them down quickly here, because if you're buying your first Echo, none of these should be that Echo. But, if you are already considerably invested in the Alexa ecosystem, then you might want to pick one of these up. … [Read more...] about Best Alexa device to buy in 2021: Pick the best Echo for you

The best LED light bulb for every room in your house in 2021
Upgrading your light switches to dimmer switches is one way to do it (and not nearly as intimidating as you might be thinking if you've never switched one out before). There are also smart plugs from brands like Lutron that'll let you dim your fixtures and lamps up and down. The easiest way, however, is simply to replace your bulbs with dimmable smart bulbs. It's a great time to do it -- costs have come way down in recent years, and the advent of voice controls has given people a quick, easy way to jump to whatever dimmer setting they like, whenever they like. … [Read more...] about The best LED light bulb for every room in your house in 2021
LED lights can help save the planet, one bulb at a time
Now here's the reality check. According to the UN's Emissions Gap Report for 2019, which documents progress towards the goals set by the 2016 Paris Agreement (the US initially joined that agreement but is set to withdraw from it this year), we'll need to see a worldwide reduction of at least 15 gigaton of CO2 emissions by 2030 in order to hold the rise in global temperatures to 2 degrees Celsius in the current century. And since a gigaton is equal to 1 billion metric tons, that 137 fewer million metric tons of CO2 emissions that the US could emit by using LEDs only amounts to about 0.9% of the total reduction the world needs in the next decade. In other words, LEDs aren't going to save the planet alone. … [Read more...] about LED lights can help save the planet, one bulb at a time

As producers on all of the projects that get picked up from Wattpad and where Wattpad is included in the deal, Levitz said it’s their responsibility to ensure all notes studios pass on to them get to the writers, and they attempt to ensure writers’ concerns are heard if it’s a traditional studio working on the project. Some writers receive outside deals for their work that appears on the site, but doesn’t include Wattpad in the process. … [Read more...] about From fanfiction to Netflix hits
LG OLED TV Evo at CES: Brighter OLED is coming, but how much will it cost?
C1 series: As with 2020 LG's "C" series of OLED TVs is the baseline, with the most sizes and the company's latest 4K processor. New for 2021 it's adding a new size, 83 inches, to keep up with the influx of 85-inch LCD TVs from competitors. Otherwise it's very similar to the 2020 CX, although LG has upgraded its A9 processor again to the fourth generation, adding scene detection and upgrading object enhancement. I expect any image quality improvement over the CX to be minimal, but we'll have to wait for reviews to be sure. … [Read more...] about LG OLED TV Evo at CES: Brighter OLED is coming, but how much will it cost?
