The Asus ZenBook UX305CA hails from a successful line of ZenBook Ultrabooks first launched in 2011. The UX305CA can be compared to Apple's MacBook (2016), partly because of its appearance -- the original ZenBooks had distinctive brushed aluminium patterns that aren't on the creamy white UX305CA -- and partly because it has the same Skylark-based Core m3-6Y30 and 8GB of RAM. The two laptops look and perform much alike, despite their noticeably different screen sizes. The ZenBook UX305CA I had on loan from Asus for a few months had a matte IPS screen with a resolution of 3200 x 1800 pixels and accurate color rendering. It beats the MacBook's screen resolution of 2304 x 1440 pixels, though the UX305CA obviously has a bigger screen: 13.3 vs 12 inches. Neither laptop has a touch-sensitive screen, so you have to rely on trackpad gestures. Having now spent several years with touch-screen laptops and tablets, I missed this feature a lot. The ZenBook UX305CA obviously beats Apple's MacBook in … [Read more...] about Hands on: Asus ZenBook UX305CA

Apple’s MacBook is a decent notebook, but it has problems, particularly in performance. Its Core M processor just isn’t as quick as some users desire.Enter Asus, and the Zenbook 3, which asks a simple question. Why compromise? Core M is efficient, but is it really necessary to create a super-slim, portable system? Asus doesn’t think so. And hopes its latest notebook — which can be purchased with up to a Core i7 dual-core — will be the proof.A form of flatteryThe new Zenbook 3 looks very similar to Apple’s MacBook at first glance. And second. And third. The shared use of all metal-design with a broad, single display hinge and speakers above the keyboard makes the resemblance uncanny.Yet there are major differences. The Zenbook 3 has a smaller touchpad, and matches the color of the keys to the body, decisions that create some distance between the Apple and the Asus. More importantly, the Zenbook 3 boasts the shiniest version of the brand’s … [Read more...] about Hands on: Asus Zenbook 3
When Apple first announced the Macbook Air in 2008, it kicked off an arms race to develop ever thinner and ever more powerful notebooks. It was a race the Air comfortably led in for a while, but now other manufacturers are producing their own powerful ultrabooks, while Apple continues to push its 12-inch Macbook as the next featherweight champion. Among the Air’s greatest competitors is the Asus Zenbook UX305CA, a powerful, slender notebook that’s absurdly cheap for what it offers. How does the once peerless Macbook Air compare with this upstart? Let’s examine the various factors. It’s hard to go wrong with the 13.3-inch Asus Zenbook UX305UA. It’s built from the same cloth as its thinner cousin — the excellent Zenbook UX305CA — but packs more horsepower thanks to its Core i5 Skylake processor. In fact, just a few months ago we deemed this laptop the best ultrabook value on the market. Currently at $750, it’s the best price you’ll find for this laptop by $140.Design-wise, the UX305UA’s matte silver metal exterior is elegant without being gaudy. It weighs in at a somewhat plump 3.2 pounds, which is about a half-pound heavier than its rival the Dell XPS 13, but the extra weight gives the system a nice, sturdy feel without any flex. The UX305UA features a spacious, full-size keyboard accompanied by an equally generous touchpad that trumps some of the best Windows touchpads we’ve seen, including the smaller touchpad found on the XPS 13. In our tests, we noticed no trouble or delays when using the touchpad with Windows … [Read more...] about You can save $140 on this awesome Asus Zenbook
Asus has quietly launched the Zenbook Flip UX360 here in the United States, a super-thin, ultra-light 2-in-1 that sports a full 360-degree hinge, allowing customers to flip the screen back to create a tablet-like form factor. It’s a mere 13.9mm thin, weighs just 2.86 pounds, and packs an Intel “Skylake” processor to boot. Think of it as an Asus Zenbook UX305CA that can be converted into a tablet when you need it.The online Asus shop actually shows two models, one being the ZenBook Flip UX360CA-UBM1T that’s available now for $700, and the ZenBook Flip UX360CA-DBM2T, coming soon for a meatier $800. Both are based on the Intel Core M 6Y30 processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 515 visuals, which powers a 13.3-inch LED-lit 1080p screen. They also both have 8GB of RAM. However, the cheaper model sports a 256GB solid state, while the latter model on the way will have a 512GB SSD.Other bells and whistles thrown into this … [Read more...] about You’ll bend over backwards to buy Asus’ Zenbook Flip UX360
By the time Asus CEO Jonney Shih left the stage at Computex 2016, it was crystal clear that the new Zenbook 3 — slated for release in summer 2016 — was being touted as the nemesis of the new Macbook. Shih’s speech, supported by a series of sleek infographics, repeatedly compared the Zenbook to the Macbook, focusing on the smaller frame and increased processing power of the Zenbook 3. Asus, holding home-court advantage at Computex (held in Taipei), chose to take the fight to Apple by promoting the Zenbook as the Macbook’s counterpart.Apple, on the other hand, didn’t devote much press to the 2016 Macbook. After a celebrated 2015 release, the new iteration of the Macbook received a few key updates — notably, new processing chips. While they were busy promoting the new iPhone SE and a bevy of Apple Watch straps, the new Macbook slid silently onto shelves across the world. While it seems unlikely that Apple will recognize — let … [Read more...] about Apple Macbook (2016) vs. Asus Zenbook 3: Which book is more “ultra”?
The Asus Zenbook line has always struck a nice balance between performance and affordability, and it looks like Asus is doubling down on that effort with even more UX305 models. The new iterations are hot on the heels of the first Skylake UX305, which features a Core m CPU.While some options offer more affordable iterations, the top end is by far the most interesting. The Zenbook UX305CA-OHM7 boasts an Intel Core m7-6Y75 CPU, a dual-core chip with Hyper-Threading, a 1.2GHz base clock, and a 3.1GHz Turbo Boost, which is paired with 8GB of RAM. Notably, the screen is a 3,200 x 1,800 IPS panel, but with integrated HD 5300 graphics. For storage, the UX305CA is equipped with a 512GB M.2 SSD, rounding out the specs on a very frugal $1,099.It’s worth noting that this system is similarly specced to the limited edition Crystal White edition of the UX305 that Asus only sold 200 of in early 2015. Apparently the rush for the high-resolution offering was enough to cause Asus to rethink … [Read more...] about Asus’ new Skylake UX305 ups the ante for laptop screen resolution
On the surface, the Dell XPS 13 and the Asus Zenbook UX305 are very similar machines. They’re both extremely small and light, they both utilize stylish designs, and they both run Windows 10. Additionally, they’re both quite well-received. Digital Trends once said the XPS 13 “sets the bar other ultrabooks must clear,” and called the UX305 “near-perfect” in their respective reviews. That being the case, they’re both great options when you’re considering a new 13-inch laptop. However, which is better? That depends on what you need. While both laptops come in several different configurations, the Core M hardware and more conventional design in the Zenbook makes it considerably cheaper. Likewise, the Core i-series processors and high-end screen options on the XPS 13 make it the better choice if you’re in need of some serious computing power. Let’s take a good hard look at the various pros and cons of both … [Read more...] about Two ultrabooks enter, only one leaves: Dell’s XPS 13 vs. Asus Zenbook UX305CA

Workers will also appreciate the ZenBook's gorgeous aluminum design, which looks as sleek and premium as the designs of rival laptops that cost hundreds of dollars more. The metal lid and keyboard deck have a subtle warm tint that sets the ZenBook apart from competing silver machines like the HP EliteBook Folio 1020.Commuters will love the ZenBook UX305CA's lightweight design. Coming in at 2.64 lbs., it's almost as light as the 2.6-lb. Dell XPS 13, even though that laptop is noticeably smaller. The Yoga 900, meanwhile, is actually heavier, at 2.8 lbs., though that system offers faster performance … [Read more...] about Asus ZenBook UX305CA Review: Is It Good for Business?
