Millennials have heard it before: People born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s are the most narcissistic, individualistic and self-absorbed generation in recorded history.Plenty of people have tried to explain this shift, pointing fingers at coddling parents and social media. But research actually suggests that millennials aren't especially awful, as generations go. In fact, American culture has been getting increasingly individualistic for at least a century, and it's likely that socioeconomic structure is to blame.Researchers reporting in 2013 in the journal Psychological Science found that socioeconomic changes preceded changes in individualism, particularly the change from a blue-collar manufacturing economy to one full of white-collar office workers. Americans really do love to work, it seems, while Europeans are much happier if they skip burning the midnight oil in favor of leisure. That's according to a new study finding longer work hours make Europeans unhappy while Americans get a very slight (albeit not statistically significant) bliss boost from the extra grind. "Those who work longer hours in Europe are less happy than those who work shorter hours, but in the U.S. it's the other way around," said study author Adam Okulicz-Kozaryn, a clinical assistant professor of public policy at The University of Texas at Dallas. "The working hours' category does not have a very big impact on the probability of happiness of Americans." NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio has announced a five-week programme for under graduate students across the country to make them aware of new digital technologies for running small business. The students will also get to interact closely with multiple Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) across India. The Jio ‘Digital Champions Program’ will be organised in four batches across the country, with the first batch starting this month, from May 21. Each programme will last five weeks and undergraduates can choose from over 800 cities and towns to apply in the batch of their choice. As far as eligibility is concerned, among the students who are pursuing four-year undergraduate courses (any stream) only students who have completed their first and second year will be eligible.
