NEW DELHI: The social networking giant Facebook announced last year that it will monetise the world's most popular app -- WhatsApp by showing ads. In October last year, Facebook executive Chris Daniels had said that the ads would be the service's "primary monetisation mode for the company". But now it seems that the company had a change of heart and has dropped the same plan. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Facebook is now backing away from its plans of selling ads for placement inside WhatsApp. The team appointed by the company for the task has been disbanded in the recent months and the WhatsApp code for the same has also been deleted. The report further ads, as confirmed by the company representative, Facebook still has plans of introducing ads in the Status feature of WhatsApp but there is no specific timeline for it. Mumbai: It was supposed to be a red-letter day in Nambirajan Selvaraj’s life. On Monday, the 24-year old engineering graduate from Coimbatore reached Cognizant’s campus in the city, joining letter in hand. He was in for a shock, though. The letter turned out to be fake offer from an email ID that looked identical to that of the official ID used by the IT services provider’s human resources department, something that Selvaraj had failed to double-check. NEW DELHI: Government is setting up a centre that will detect malicious programmes like 'botnets' and help device owners remove such harmful softwares for free. "We are setting up 'botnet' cleaning and malware analysis centre within three months. It will automatically detect botnets that trigger various cybercrimes and suggest the device owner to remove it from their device with help of our facility," IT secretary R S Sharma told PTI. The project is a part of Digital India programme and aims to create safe and secure cyberspace, Sharma said. The centre is being set up with an outlay of about Rs 100 crore and national cybersecurity watchdog Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (ICERT) has selected vendor for the same.
