The top of the rug still looks good, but the backing is shot! When that happens to a rug it becomes really dangerous. And right now, it’s not a great time to go to the hospital with a broken hip or twisted ankle. You don’t have to throw that rug away; you just need to restore the backing with a product called Fiber-Lok. To use Fiber-Lok on your rugs, wash and dry your rug as usual and remove any flakey rubbing backing. Then, working outdoors, apply a thin coat of Fiber-Lok and let dry. Work outside because there is a strong smell of ammonia in Fiber-Lok, but it dissipates quickly. A second coat should be applied within 12 hours. Your rug is washable in a week.
