Q. After switching to the Mac in 2006 I discovered there was no ability to cut and past files from one location to another. I did find an app called Moveaddict that would let me do this, but it is not compatible with Yosemite and the developers are not updating it. Is there another option for me? A. The native abilty to cut and paste files on a Mac is a bit convoluted and cumbersome. It involves some keystroke and mouse combinations that don’t always seem to work well. And I can see where it would be frustrating to find a nifty utility like Moveaddict only to find it doesn’t work with your current system. Fortunately, there is a solution. Like you, I enjoy the simplicity of using cut and paste to move files around on my computer and was also a little frustrated at this lack of functionality on the Mac. This lead me to seeking out a solution and I found a program called Xtrafinder. Xtrafinder is basically a Finder enhancement\replacement that adds many useful features to the Finder, including cutting and pasting files. And best of all, it’s free!
